Patience with gingerbread houses!

They are so lovely with all that sugary sweet stuff on top of, well, sugar. With coconut flakes sprinkled generously to make it look sparkly. *Sigh* How are your Christmas preparations coming? Do you have decorations up? Seems our house is all about traditions happening lately. We just got our Christmas tree up and now we are making gingerbread houses. Gingerbread houses is something I look forward to every year. We have some pretty fun stories about them. Like the year I decided, detailed girl I am, to make a barbed wire fence all along my house. We stuck pretzels as the posts and then made teeny tiny little holes on a string and attempted to attach that to posts…. I`m never doing that again! Or the time we were being so wild taking pictures afterwords of the gingerbread houses ( Well, maybe goofy pictures…..) that we knocked the Christmas tree down. Such good memories… anyway, back to the present! This year we again gathered our selections of candies and began to create.

Laurel, my cousin, has always built gingerbread houses with us. She immediately said she was going to make a two story house. She is uber artistic and did a fantastic job on her house.DSCN2255

Hannah`s always has everything so perfectly placed. It`s fascinating to see what everyone comes up with every year.

I decided to do a two-story too, with a balcony. Don`t ask me what happened to the balcony this morning….. I might just cry or something. Okay it fell off and split in two.

It`s fun to think that someday I will look back to these gingerbread houses. Maybe even  laugh at all the decorations we did. Our decorating purpose has definitely changed from put on as much candy as you can so you have more to eat later, to using only what you really think will enhance your house, and eating enough while you’re making them to make up the difference. Post a comment and tell me about your holiday traditions!

Liked your wording. 🙂 Mama did some miracle work this morning and added posts under the balcony to hold it up! Now there is just a hole in it where it broke…..frosting?

I knew that my dear Aunty would approve…..If you need any tips on how we fixed it, we used some icing and a few cinnamon stick posts. 🙂
